Víctor García Route, Mallo Colorado, Riglos, Huesca

Como decían que el tiempo iba a empeorar a medio día, Diego, Adrián y yo decidimos ir de todas formas y hacer una ruta rápida.

As the forecast said the weather was going to get worse at noon. Diego, Adrián and me met anyway, and decided to climb a quick route in Riglos.

Elegimos la vía Víctor García al mallo Colorado, una vía de “6a humano” compuesta de 4 largos.
We choose the route Victor Garcia on the Mallo Colorado, a "human 6a" route which has 4 pitches. 

Vía / Route:

Largo 1 (30 metros, 6a): La vía sube recto superando unas cuantas panzas de 6a.
1st Pitch (30 meters, 6a): The route goes up straight going over a few 6a bulges.

Largo 2 (30 metros, V): Largo vertical con muy buenos agarres y muy disfrutón.
2nd Pitch (30 meters, V): Vertical and really enjoyable pitch with very good holds.

Largo 3 (20 metros, II): Largo muy fácil, se puede caminar.
3rd Pitch (20 meters, II): Really easy pitch that can be done walking.

Largo 4 (20 metros, V+): Largo vertical, con una panza de V+ al principio del largo, llega a la cima.
4th Pitch (20meters, V+): Vertical pitch with a V+buldge at the beggining of the pitch. It reaches the top.

Descenso: Rápel desde la sabina localizada al otro lado del Mallo.

Descent: Abseiling down from the savine located on the other side of the Mallo.

Vía Normal, Mallo Gómez Laguna, Riglos, Huesca

Normal route, Mallo Gómez Laguna, Riglos, Huesca

Una vez más, Adrián, Diego, Eduardo y un servidor llegamos a Riglos, con el objetivo de hacer la vía Normal al mallo Gómez Laguna, una vía clásica semiequipada con una dificultad máxima de 6a/A1, es decir usando estribos. La vía fue abierta el 6 de octubre de 1.947 por A. Serón, A. Ansón y F. Fau.

Once again, Adrián, Diego, Eduardo and me went back to Riglos. This time, our goal was to climb the Normal route to Mallo Gomez Laguna, a classic "half belayed" route with a maximun level of 6a/A1, I mean using stirrups. The route was opened on October 6, 1947 by A. Serón, A. Ansón and F. Fau.

Vía / Route:

Largo 1 (25 metros, IV): Subir al puente de roca que une el Gómez Laguna y la Aguja Roja. 

1st Pitch (25 meters, IV): Climb to the rock bridge that links the malos Gomez Laguna and Aguja Roja.

Largo 2 (30 metros, 6a+/A1): Muro de 6a+ equipado con clavos y parabolts, recomendable llevar estribos, el último clavo se encuentra bastante alejado. Tras anclar el último clavo, la vía va en una facil travesía de unos 20 metros hacia la derecha hasta el final, no hay ningún seguro en toda la travesía. Reunión en dos parabolts bantante escondidos en la pared izquieda de una pequeña chimenea en la cara Este del mallo.

2nd Pitch (30 meters, 6a+/A1): 6a+ wall belayed with pitons and bolts, it is advisable to use stirrups, the last piton is quite far above. After having clicked the last piton, the route goes on an an easy traverse to the right, here is not any belaying point in the whole traverse. Belay station on 2 quite hidden bolts on the left side wall of a chimney on the East face of the mallo.

Largo 3 (35 metros, IV+): Pequeña chimenea muy rota, termina en una reunión intermedia de 2 buriles muy viejos, nosotros nos la saltamos. La vía sigue por el muro de encima de esa vieja reunión con ligera tendencia hacia la izquierda, hasta llegar a una sabina que da entrada a otra gran repisa, justo antes de la sabina se encuentra el único clavo del largo. Unos metros a la izquierda de la sabina de nuevo en la cara sur, haremos reunión de dos pes expansivas. (1 solo clavo en todo el largo, se puede poner algún puente de roca y algún alien, largo muy expuesto por la calidad de la roca y los ausencia de seguros).

3rd Pitch (35 meters, IV+): Small chimney with very loose rock that ends on an intermediate belay station with 2 very old bolts, we skipped it. The route continues above the old belay station, with a little tendency towards the left, until it reaches to a savine which is the entrance to a big slab, just before the savine there is the only bolt in the whole pitch. A few meters away from the savine there are 2 "P" pitons to set the belay station.

Largo 4 (15 metros, III): Pequeña travesía hacia la izquierda, superar una sabina, justo delante encontraremos un parabolt y un poco más abajo (instalación de rápel que no montaremos), seguiremos unos metros en ascenso hasta llegar al espolón oeste, donde existe otra reunión con dos paraboles y un viejo clavo.

4th Pitch (15 meters, III): Small traverse to the left, after going over a savine there is a bolt and a little lower there is another belay station, which we skipped because it is an abseiling point. Then the route goes up a few meters until it reaches the West buttress, where there are 2 bolts and an old piton to set belay station.

Largo 5 (20 metros, V): Muro vertical con buenos agarres y asegurado con parabolts. Reunión en la cima en una sabina con sirga.

5th Pitch (20 meters, V): Vertical with good holds and belayed with bolts. Belay station on a wire set around a savine on the summit.

Descenso: Desde la última reunión, hacer un rápel de 20 metros por la cara sur hasta llegar a la instalación de la última cornisa (2 parabolt con anilla). Desde aquí, con cuerdas de 60 metros se llega bien hasta el suelo, (Hay que tener especial cuidado con la caída de piedras que tiraremos al rapelar y al recuperar las cuerdas).

Descent: In 2 Abseils. The 1st one is a 20 meters abseil rom the top to the belay station we skipped in the 4th pitch. The 2nd one is from the belay station to the ground with 60 meters ropes (Be careful there are lots of loose rocks).

Una vez mas vuelvo a Riglos junto con mi padre y Diego. Esta vez decidimos hacer la vía Colorín Colorado al Mallo Colorado. La vía situada a la derecha de vía “Los kilos te sientan bien”.
Once again I went back to Riglos with my dad and Diego. This time we had decided to climb the route Colorín Colorado on the Mallo Colorado. The route is located on the left of the route “Los kilos te sientan bien”.

Vía / Route:

Largo 1 (30 metros, 6a/A0): El primer seguro está a unos 5 metros junto a una sabina, la vía sigue recto superando 2 panzas de 6a.
1st Pitch (30 meters, 6a/A0): The first bolt is 5 meters upwards, next to a savine. The route goes up straight going over 2 6a bulges.

Largo 2 (30 metros, V): El segundo largo sigue vertical, buscando los puntos más débiles de la pared.
2nd Pitch (30 meters, V): The second pitch carries up straight trying to find the weakest spots onf the wall.

Largo 3 (20 metros, IV): Largo fácil y bastante tumbado.
3rd Pitch (20 meters, IV): Easy and quite lied pitch.

Largo 4 (20 metros, IV+): Largo vertical que llega a la cima.
4th Pitch (20meters, IV+): Vertical pitch that reaches the top.

Descenso: Rápel desde la sabina localizada al otro lado del Mallo.

Descent: Abseiling down from the savine located on the other side of the Mallo.

Vía Cara Sur, Mallo Canal, Riglos, Huesca

South Face Route, Mallo Canal, Riglos, Huesca

Esta vez nos acompañaba Natalie, que está iniciándose en el mundo de la escalada, por lo que mi padre y yo decidimos llevarla a hacer el Mallo Canal.

This time Natalie came with us, who is taking her first steps in the rock climbing world. So my dad and me decided to take to the Mallo Canal.

Aparcamos en el aparcamiento del Centro de interpretación de aves Arcaz, y cogimos la pista de los Mallos pequeños, hasta llegar a una gran canal, subimos por la canal hasta encontrar una cuerda fija que nos dejó en la base del Mallo.

We parked at the visitor center car park and we took the path that leads to the small Mallos. We followed the track until we got to a big scree. We climbed up the scree and we got to a permanent rope that takes you to the base of the Mallo.

Vía / Route:

Largo 1 (30 m, 2 seg., 3c): Muro de unos 10 metros con una minisabina antes de la primera chapa. Primer seguro un poco alto (6-7 metros, roca a vigilar algo descompuesta). Después del segundo seguro se sale a una amplia terraza. La reunión se encuentra a la derecha (1 parabolt). Tramo fácil, pero sin seguros.

1st Pitch (30 m, 2 bolts, 3c): 10 meters wall with a small savine jsut before the first bolt. The first bolt is quite high and the rock is quite loose. After the second bolt there is a big and wide area. The belay station is on the right, only 1 bolt. Easy part but without any belaying points. 

Largo 2 (35 m, 5 seg., 4c): Placa tumbada con grandes bolos hasta llegar al primer seguro. Una pancita que se supera bien. Luego ir unos 3 metros a la izquierda para encontrar la siguiente chapa (un poco oculta). El resto es bastante fácil, aunque faltan seguros.

2nd Pitch (35 m, 5 bolts, 4c): Lied slab with good holds until the 1st bolt. Afterwards there is a bulge easily climbable, the rest of the pitch is quite easy but there is a lack of belaying points.

 

Largo 3 (35 m, 5 seg., 5b): Muro con piedra un poco rota en la parte izquierda del muro, pero por la derecha hay buenos bolos, esta bien asegurada. Superado el muro, seguir un poco a la izquierda hasta encontrar el último seguro. Reunión en una sabina con cinta y maillon (35 m), aunque se puede se puede montar reunion en otra sabina que está en la cima (55 metros). 

3rd Pitch (35 m, 5 seg., 5b): Wall with loose rock on the left but good holds on th right, it is well belayed. Once the wall has been climbed, the route goes to the left where the last bolt is located. Belay station on a savine belayed with a strap and a maillon (35 m), but there is also possible to set the belay station on the summit on an another savine (55 m). 

Descenso: Rapel de 15 metros nos deja en un collado. De ahí hay que tirar hacia el oeste (en ligero descenso) e ir a buscar el camino que rodea el Mallo Colorado.

Descent: 15 meters abseil to the hillside. Form there, we headed west through the brushwood until we got to the path that goes around the Mallo Colorado.

Espolón Guanchinfú, Peña Predicadera, Huesca, España

En torno a las 9 de la mañana Diego, Eduardo y yo ponemos rumbo a la Peña Predicadera, para escalar la vía “Espolón Guanchinfú”.

Around 9am Diego, Eduardo and me headed to Peña Predicadera, to rock climb the route “Espolón Guanchinfú” (Guanchinfú Buttress).

Reseña / Route:

Largo 1 (25 m, 8 seg., III): Placa tumbada de roca compacta muy adherente.

1st Pitch (25 m, 8 bolts, III): Lied slab with compact rock and good holds. 

Largo 2 (30 m, 5 seg., 4b): Seguir por una amplia placa y un muro separados por una zona intermedia más tumbada.

2nd Pitch (30 m, 5 bolts, 4b): It continues on a wide slab and a wall separated by a more lying down intermediate área.

Largo 3 (30 m, 5 seg., 4b): Travesía ascendente hacia la izquierda. Reunión a la izquierda, después de pasar la torrentera.

3rd Pitch (30 m, 5 bolts, 4b): Ascending traverse towards the left. Belay station located on the left, after passing a ribs.

Largo 4 (35 m, 6 seg., 4c): Empieza en una canal vertical con buenas presas, tras pasar un tramo tumbado entra en otra canal pequeña, muy vertical, pero con buenas presas, es el paso difícil de largo.

4th Pitch (35 m, 6 bolts, 4c): It starts in a vertical groove with good holds, after passing a lying down area there is another groove, which is very vertical but with good holds, this groove is the crux of the route.

Largo 5 (30 m, 9 seg., 5b): Comienza por una placa, para luego continuar por un ancho canalizo-chimenea, seguido de un murete-techito (seguros muy cerca). Subir un poco y meterse en un canalizo que queda a la izquierda. Hay un par de pasos finos, es el tramo difícil del largo, luego se va tumbando hasta llegar a la reunión.

5th Pitch (30 m, 9 bolts, 5b): It begins in a groove, to continue in a chimney following by a bulge, (the bolts are very close from each other). After going up a little bit there is a new groove on the left. There are a couple hard steps, it is the hardest step in the pitch, after that it lies down smoothly.

Largo 6 (20 m, 4 seg., 5c): Placa tumbada al comienzo, haciendo una corta travesía a la izquierda, finaliza en una canal-chimenea vertical bien protegida.

6th Pitch (20 m, 4 bolts, 5c): Lying down slab that goes in traverse to the left, it ends in a chimney very well belayed.
