A few months ago the Abbott family, my English family offered me to go with them to Montenegro, obviously I said yes.
El domingo volamos a Podgorica, tras alquilar el coche pusimos rumbo a la capital montenegrina, tras dar una vuelta nos dimos cuenta de que allí no hay nada de nada por lo que decidimos poner rumbo a Kotor.
On Sunday we flew to Podgorica, after renting the car we headed to the city center, after walking around for a while we realized that in Podgorica there is nothing at all there, so we decided to head for Kotor.
En nuestro primer día en Montenegro decidimos visitar Kotor.
In our first day in Montenegro we decided to visit Kotor city.
Kotor es una bonita localidad costera ubicada al fondo de la bahía de la Costa Dálmata, que fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. La ciudad se encuentra totalmente amurallada y la muralla extiende incluso por la colina hasta la fortaleza de San Juan.
Kotor is a beautiful coastal town located at the end of the bay of the Dalmatian Coast, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city is completely walled and the wall extends even up the hill to the St John fortress.
Lo primero que hicimos fue realizar el ascenso hasta la fortaleza de San Juan, ya que a primera hora de la mañana hace sombra y de esa manera evitábamos el calor asfixiante que hace al salir el sol.
The first thing we did was the ascent to the St John fortress, to avoid the suffocating heat that there is when the sun rise.
Durante la ascensión realizamos solo una parada, en la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Salud, una pequeña iglesia ortodoxa que data de los inicios del siglo XVI.
During the ascent we stopped only once, at the Church of Our Lady of Remedy, a small Orthodox church dating from the early XVI century.
Tras la breve parada continuamos nuestra ascensión hasta la fortaleza de San Juan. La fortaleza de San Juan se encuentra más de 200 metros por encima de la ciudad, ya que este pequeño castillo servía para proteger a la ciudad de las invasiones otomanas, permitiéndonos disfrutar de unas vistas maravillosas de la bahía y de los rojos tejados de las casas de Kotor.
After the little break we continued ascendind to the fortress. St John fortress is located more than 200 meters above the city, as this small castle served to protect the city from Ottoman invasions, allowing us to enjoy wonderful views of the bay and the red roofs of the houses of Kotor.
Una vez abajo empleamos la mañana dando una vuelta por la ciudad, parando a comer en uno de los restaurantes de la zona.
Once we were at the bottom we spent the rest fo the morning walking around the city, stopping for lunch at one restaurant of the area
Tras comer empleamos el resto de la tarde jugando a waterpolo, el deporte nº1 en Kotor, ciudad que además cuenta con uno de los equipos mas potentes del mundo, el MNE VK Primorac de Kotor.
After lunch we spent the rest of the afternoon playing waterpolo, the main sport in Kotor, also the city has has one of the most powerful teams in the world, the MNE VK Primorac Kotor.
