Needles of Balellaza, Lizara, Spain

Segundo día de escalada, puse rumbo junto a Diego y Eduardo al Refugio de Lizara, con la idea de realizar la vía a las Agujas de la Balellaza.

Second rock climbing day, I headed with Diego and Eduardo to Lizara shelter, with the idea of climbling the route Agujas de la Balellaza (Needles of Balellaza).

Largo 1 (6b/A0, 40 m): El paso más duro de la vía. El largo comienza en un marcado diedro donde hay un pequeño bloque empotrado con un cordino, más arriba otro bloque con otro cordino justo antes del primer parabolt. Una vez salimos del paso, seguimos por una canal con bastantes piedras sueltas, la reunión está en la pared de la izquierda.

1st Pitch (6b/A0, 40 m): The hardest pitch in the route. The pitch starts on a dihedral with a rock stuck in it with a little cord on it, upper there is another rock with another little cord just before the first bolt. Once climbed the first part, the route carries on along a groove with a lot of loose stones, the belay station is on the left wall.

Largo 2 y 3 (III/IV, 50 m): Salimos por la canal, superamos un resalte de 3 metros y una zona de terreno herboso (20m) para llegar a unas placas tumbadas con buenos agarres hasta la repisa donde esta la reunión (30m). Se puede empalmar ambos largos sin problemas.

2nd & 3rd Piches (III/IV, 50 m): Once passed the groove, there is a crack of about 3 meters high and a grassy area (30m) that ends on a lying slab with good holds until a ledge where the belay station is . You can wire both pitches without any problem.

Largo 4 (IV, 35 m): Bonito largo por el filo de la derecha de una pequeña aguja, roca buena, con bastantes cintajos y algún parabolt.

4th Pitch (IV, 35 m): Nice pitch that goes on the right edge of a small needle, good quality rock, there are cords and some bolts.

Largo 5 (III, 40 m): Largo fácil sobre buena roca.

5th Pitch (III, 40 m): Easy pitch on good quality rock.

Largo 6 (IV+, 20 m): Largo corto sobre buena roca y que nos lleva hasta la cima de una pequeña aguja donde veremos una instalación de reunión y un cordino para pasar al otro lado donde hay un rapel.

6th Pitch (IV+, 20m): Short pitch on good rock that leads to the top of a small needle where the belay station is, there is a cord as well to go to the other side where there is an abseil set.

Rapel (10 m): Baja hasta la siguiente aguja.

Abseil (10 m): Descends to the next needle.

Largo 7 (V, 30 m): Largo que comienza por la izquierda, con una pequeña travesía a derechas (V) y que continúa por el filo de la derecha de la aguja hasta llegar a su cima (IV+), donde hay un rapel.

7th Pitch (V, 30m): The pitch begins on the left, on a short traverse to the right (V), It continues along the right edge of the needle until it reaches its top (IV +), where there is another abseil set .

Rapel (15 m): Baja al collado, la reunión esta al pie de la aguja de enfrente.

Abseil (15 m): Goes down to the pass, the belay station is at the bottom of the needle in front.

Largo 8 (V, 40m): Sin duda el largo estrella de la vía, comienza con una travesía a derechas, con dos puentes de roca seguidos antes del primer parabolt donde comenzaremos a subir recto sobre placas verticales y muy buenas regletas. Escalada muy divertida que primero va a derechas y luego a izquierdas hasta una marcada grieta en cuya cima está la siguiente reunión, a la izquierda del todo de la aguja y justo antes de la cima de la misma (V).
8th Pitch (V, 40m): The best pitch in the route. It starts on a traverse to the right, there are 2 natural pros just before the first bolt, moment in which the route goes up vertical on superimposed ledges. Really enjoyable climb that first goes to the right and then to the left to a marked crack on whose top is the belay station. Just before the top of the needle on the left.

Largo 9 (IV, 40 m): Salida con una pequeña travesía a derechas y que luego sigue por terreno horizontal sobre una arista superior hasta la base de la siguiente aguja, donde hay una reunión.

9th Pitch (IV, 40 m): It starts on a short traverse to the right, then follows horizontal terrain over the crest of an arete to the bottom of the next needle, where the next belay station is.

Largo 10 (II, 40 m): Comienza en la base de una aguja que debemos sortear (nosotros lo hicimos por la izquierda con cuidado) pero no vimos ninguna protección y continúa por la arista hasta la reunión.

10th Pitch (II, 40 m): It starts at the bottom of  a needle that must be overcome by one of the sides (we did it carefully on the left) but we did not see any protection, it continues over the arete until reaches the belay station.

Largo 11 (II, 35 m): En este largo llegamos a la primera cumbre, destrepamos a la derecha y bajamos por una afilada y descompuesta arista que continúa hacia arriba por una marcada pendiente de hierba, (expuesto) Arriba del todo veremos un parabolt con una cadena para rapelar y una cuerda fija para destrepar (a la derecha).

11th Pitch (II, 35 m): In this pitch, the route reaches the first summit, then downclimbs to the right to a really sharp and chossy arete that goes up to a steep grassy slope (exposed), on top of the slope there is a bolt attached to a chain to abseil down and a permanent rope on the right to downclimb.

Desde aquí, comenzamos el descenso por los rápeles:
Here starts the descend by abseils: 

Rapel 1 (10 m): Esta justo en frente de la cuerda fija.
1st Abseil (10 m): It is set just in front of the permanent rope.

Rapel 2 (25 m): Se encuentra situado a la derecha de la canal, cerca del borde, una vez terminado hay que irse a la izquierda y destrepar hasta un bloque situado al final de la canal. Este bloque contiene una cadena en su lado izquierdo y es donde se encuentra el siguiente rapel. 
2nd Abseil (25 m): It is set on the right of the groove, next to the edge, once the abseils is finished you have to go to the left and downclimb to a rock located at the edge of the groove. This rock has a chain set on its left side and there it is where the next abseil is set.

Rapel 3 (20 m): Rapel vertical donde termina la vía.

3rd Abseil (20 m): Vertical abseil where the route finishes.
